May 7, 1968 Dear Mr. Knight: As an also-ran once more this year, I wish to congratulate you on the Pulitzer Prize honor that you so richly deserve. This recog¬ nition of your editorials follows the recognition that has long come from newspapermen generally. Your winning the award this year makes me all the more appreciative of your nomi¬ nating my work on the Detroit Free Press last year. I remember your telling me, after you had heard my entry received final consideration, that your work had also almost won previously. I want you to know, too, how much I enjoyed the freedom, opportunities and challenges that were mine on the Free Press, and especially the chance to run the page during last summer's riot when Mark was in Vietnam. If you come to New York and have the time, I'd enjoy hearing from you. Again, my warmest congratulations. You give the Pulitzer added statur^. Sincerely, (U John A » Hamilton Mr. John S.
