THE MIAMI No. 1 HERALD PLAZA • MIAMI, FLA. 33101 • TELEPHONE 35 0-2 111 • AREA CODE 305 Mr. John S. Knight Akron Beacon Journal Akron, Ohio Dear Jack: Tina and I had the "ice breaker" at our house this evening which I mentioned to you, and it turned out real well. Jim Cox, Dan Mahoney, Bill Baggs, Luckett Yawn, Ed Pierce (managing editor) and Bob Sherman all came from the News. Jim Knight and every one of our department heads (ex¬ cept for editorial people who were not invited) came. These are all people with whom The News people will be having routine dealings from time to time. Baggs, Cox and Mahoney told me they were most favorably impressed with the way every one from The Herald had handled themselves in their relations with News people the last couple of days. I think Jim Knight will tell you this in¬ formal gathering seemed to be just the sort of bridge needed at this moment. The first Sunday effort went well. August 1, 1966. (Dictated Sunday night) Sincerely 1m AFMIIATED OWNERSHIP DETROIT FREE PRESS • AKRON BEACON JOURNAL • CHARLOTTE OBSERVER • CHARLOTTE NEWS
