BOX 2265 Paul B.Beers Harrisburg.Penna. itiob AMOCIATKEDITOR TELKPHONKl238-5251 may 199 1971 Dear Mr. Black: Let me offer congratulations, here in dawn's early, uncomfortable light, to the courageous stand the Inquirer and you took on Sunday, Some undoubtedly have called you foolhardy, but I think respect and integrity are built upon such stuff. No one would confuse Bill G-reen III with Abraham Lincoln, but you chbse him in the face of known prevailing sentiment in the town, unfavorable backlash, the relative neutralism of your rivals and, most remarkably, with no self-interest on your part, I know the political history scene of Pennsylvania fairly well, and I cannot recall such a risky effort in the cause of good newspapering ever made before. This easily surpasses 1951, when the Inquirer and the Bulletin raised snorts in the Union League by going hand-in-hand for Joe Clark. My congratulations again for rating at least a footnote for gutsy independence, which I hope never goes out of style. Cordially,
