Description |
From a letter written by Gilbreth to Hugo Munsterberg, dated March 19, 1914: "618-L3'13. This picture shows a very inexpensive method of increasing the height of chairs. In one factory we were in the chairs [that] had been used for a score of years, and the legs had all worn off accordingly. By taking four pieces of wood about two inches square, and boring a hole in the top of each, any worker can bring his chair up to a more comfortable height. A survey of any old factory will bring out astonishing facts regarding the presence of bolsters made of old magazines and clot tied into bunches, and put on seats to lift the girls up into more comfortable positions. The adaptation of chairs, recognized in the colleges as being extremely useful in causing no more fatigue that is necessary, has barely found its way into industries. Here is a chair which is particularly good for office work, although to date is has been used especially in colleges. FM-G1 shows the McClelland Folding Tablet Chair.” |
