Item Title
618-G53
Description
From a
letter
written
by
Gilbreth
to
Hugo
Munsterberg
,
dated
March
19
,
1914
: "
613-G27
. This
picture
shows
one
of the
many
devices
that was
used
for
relieving
the
fatigue
of the
worker
.
Springs
were
put
under
the
chairs
to
relieve
the
workers
of the
great
vibrations
of the
three
hundred
sweing
machines
in the
same
room
and their
heavy
driving
motors
.
Besides
the
chair
a
foot
rest
was
devised
to
hold
the
feet
without
any
vibrations
from the
floor
, and a
treadle
was
devised
so
as not to
require
the
foot
on
it
in
order
to
keep
the
machine
going
. This
is
only
one
of
many
fatigue
eliminating
devices
,
which
come
as a
result
of
examination
of the
micro-motion
and
cyclegraph
process
.
Nearly
everybody
believes
that
all
women
should be
measures
for their
corsets
, but
very
few
people
realize
that
working
girls
should be
measured
for her
working
chair
in
which
she
spends
on
half
of the
time
she
is
awake
during
her
entire
working
life
. For this
purpose
we
have had
chairs
in
which
of
varying
heights
for the
girl
to
sit
in, and then
made
a
chair
for
each
of them
particularly
measures
for her and her
work
. This
is
much
quicker
and
more
accurate
than the
adjustable
chair
. This
is
shown
in
picture
618-G53.
